Treating drug and alcohol addiction in women
A female first approach to treating addiction in women
Our approach
The distinct characteristics of the female experience cannot be separated from the program of recovery that a woman will seek out in order to deal with their addiction. Acknowledgment of the different experiences that women face within our society as a whole, and within the recovery process, in particular, is paramount to a program that is to be successful.
Psychology First
We believe that taking a psychology-first approach to treatment works best when we treat addiction in women. Often we find that when treating addiction in women we must first address issues of childhood sexual abuse, rape, or physical violence these factors must be acknowledged within the specificity of the female experience and healing has to happen as a part of the recovery process.
Taking a ‘real world’ approach
While we understand the philosophy behind rehabilitation programs that are for women only, we believe that interaction between our male and female clients will better prepare them for the societal realities that await them.
A gender free, neutral, universal program of recovery is NOT a realistic or productive means by which to address the reality of women’s addiction.

What alternative therapies are used to help women in rehab?
When people think of rehab they usually associate it with a very clinical mindset. But we believe that the inclusion of alternative healing modalities is an important aspect of the process. By utilizing ‘Natural’ healing therapies, we are able to offer new ways to help our clients overcome addiction. Natural or “home” remedies have been a big part of every culture since the dawn of humankind. Thousands of years ago, it was all we had, and it allowed us to prosper and build the incredible civilizations and ways of life we hold so dear today. Modern medicine would never have reached such an impressive state as it exists in today had it not been for healers, shamans, and medicine women of many, many generations past.

Stories of Recovery
“Addressing the Roots of Opiate Addiction”
“It took a lot for me to first admit that I had a problem and second to do something about it. “
“When I arrived I had a warm welcome from Catherine and knew that the staff was there to help. I found that the group discussions were helpful in finding a way for me to be happy without drugs. When you go to rehab for one month it’s not a lot of time. If I hadn’t gone I probably would be right back where I came from. I stay in touch with the staff as they help me stay on track.”
“My daughter was a client of Catherine’s and her outstanding team of addiction treatment professionals.”
“The key word here is “professional”. My husband and I attend family of addicts support groups in the US and we have heard many horror stories about treatment facilities. Our experience was very positive. My daughter has been sober for almost a year. These people are compassionate, knowledgeable, informative, highly ethical and always maintain the highest degree of professionalism in dealing with their clients and the entire family.”
